Wettingen Underground Car Park
– Concrete Fire Protection
As part of the refurbishment of the underground car park in Wettingen, the existing reinforced concrete ribbed slab was upgraded to meet fire safety standards. Targeted measures were required due to the insufficient concrete cover.

Project details
The HENSOTHERM® 820 KS fire protection system was used, a water-based, single-component, insulating fire protection coating for internal concrete structures. In the event of a fire, the coating foams up at temperatures of around 150 °C and forms an insulating layer of carbon foam. This significantly reduces the heat transfer into the reinforced concrete elements, thereby preventing spalling of the concrete and maintaining the structure’s load-bearing capacity for up to 60 minutes.
HENSOTOP® WB Green was applied as the final protective and decorative coating. This provides long-term protection for the fire protection coating whilst giving the car park a bright, well-maintained appearance.
Thanks to the expert advice and professional execution of the concrete fire protection, this project makes an important contribution to the safety and longevity of the load-bearing structure and meets the high standards for structural fire protection in existing infrastructure buildings.
